Sao Paulo trip wouldn’t be complete if you don’t get to taste its local delicacies and the fun way of doing that would be joining the FREE FOOD TOUR. Yes, you heard me right, the food and beverages are given for free plus they will tell you a little bit of history/background about it.
Tours run for two hours from 2:00 – 4:00 pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, except holidays and to join, you just have to show up at the meeting place (see map below) before 2 pm. You will find the guides wearing yellow shirt with a print Free Food Tour.
What is the menu?
1. Cachaça 51
2. Pão de Queijo
A popular breakfast and snack food in Brazil known as the Pão de Quiejo or Cheese Bread.
Açai na tigela is made from frozen and mashed açai palm fruit which is found in the Brazilian Amazon. This is considered a superfood for Brazilians because it is packed with health benefits. Açai is normally served frozen mixed with fruits.
4. Brazilian rice and beans
While Cachaça is Brazil’s most common alcoholic beverage, Caipirinha is the country’s most famous cocktail.
Coxinha is a popular food in Brazil made of shredded chicken meat molded to shape like a chicken thigh. The shape of coxinhas actually has some history behind it.
Once upon a time there was a little boy who lived in seclusion because of his mental problems. He had a favorite dish, chicken, but he only ate the thigh part. One day, they ran out of chicken thigh so the cook decided to shred some of the chicken meat left over and formed it into a drumstick.
So that sums up the tour. The menu above is not usually the same every trip since it usually depends on the availability of the partner restaurants. Vegetarians need not worry because they have a different menu prepared for you.
There were a total of 11 participants during our tour. It was a really fun experience and I would really recommend the tour to everyone.
